Yayoiken - Singapore

During our Asia Trip last year we spent a few days in Singapore with family. One of the restaurants we tried then was Yayoiken. I believe it's the same chain restaurant like the one we had in  Osaka, Japan.

It's located at the basement of Liang Court in the Clark Quay area. The mall itself is not that big but the basement has a selection of restaurants. Yayoiken here just like the ones in Japan had nice cozy ambiance. Unlike the ones in Japan where orders are placed through vending machine, this one took orders via tablet at each table.

Maybe because of different culture, Yayoiken in Singapore focus more on family style dishes where one dish could be shared by a few people. Yayoiken in Japan is teishoku style meal meaning each order will come with a bowl of rice, soup, main dish and maybe another side dish. All of those usually are presented in a tray. Teishoku meal is quite popular in Japan because most people eat by themselves so having a set meal with all single serving makes more sense.

We started by ordering a few dishes while waiting for my nephew to show up. When the dishes came we realized that the sizes were very small. Each dish most likely is enough for about three people. So we decided to order a few more dishes just to make sure everyone could get a decent meal.

The food tasted yummy but sizes were a bit tiny. In the end the bill came out pretty expensive. All in all not a good value but it's okay for a splurge every so often.
