Daily Fix Cafe - Malacca, Malaysia

Daily Fix was recommended as a place popular for its pandan pancake. Pandan is a fragrant leaves normally grow in the tropical area. In South East Asia, pandan leaves is usually used for baking and cooking rice.

Supposedly this pandan pancake is so popular that they could be sold out. Knowing we would only have one morning to go for it so we made sure to get there early.

The cafe is located at the back of a souvenir store. The sign was small and could easily missed. Without Google map we wouldn't have found it. Walk through the store and you would the cafe. It's like a secret cafe !

We ordered pandan pancake, ice mocha and hot chocolate. Yup, hot choco for hot humid tropical weather. I found myself revert back to hot drinks after two weeks of adjustment to tropical weather. While waiting for the order, we took in the decor of the cafe.

The cafe uses an old building like a lot of other old buildings on Jonker Street. Though not being utilized, the building has second floor with a wooden staircase down to the main area of the cafe. Part of the building has opening with natural sunlight coming through. Just underneath it was seating area. We couldn't sit there though it was better for taking photos because it's a also a favorite spot for other patrons of the cafe to take photos.

Finally our order arrived. The drinks were nothing to rave about. But the pandan pancake was indeed special. Freshly made and piping hot served with side of gula melaka aka palm sugar. This type of sugar is derived from palm tree. It's darker in color and fragrant. I didn't use the sugar because the pancake was pretty sweet with dusting of powdered white sugar.

All in all the pancake is a must try when visiting Malacca.
