Have heard of this restaurant since last year when we first moved to Vancouver. But finally had a chance to swing by one weekend with hubby and some friends.

Parking was a bit challenging so we got dropped off at the rear of the restaurant and hubby went to look for parking elsewhere since all the spots at the rear of the restaurants were taken. It was lunch time on weekend so totally understandable. There were only about 8 spots there anyway.

Since there were a group of us we had chance to try more items. We started with the obvious ones like Hainanese chicken rice, char kway teow (fried rice noodle) and roti prata. Then decided to add more protein by ordering chicken satay, nyonya eggplant and assam fish.

The dishes that stood our were char kway teow and chicken satay. The char kway teow had the wok hei - smoky flavor that can only be achieved with high heat stir fry typical Chinese stir fry. Not quite sure what style this char kway teow was but it wasn't Penang style that normally uses small cockle like the one at Crystal Mall food court in Burnaby.

The chicken satay was actually quite generous in size. Four plump size chicken satay with well seasoned chicken meat. I could taste hint of spices like lemon grass and maybe galangal. My mom made pork satay with this sort of marinate. But some people may think this chicken satay a bit on the sweet side.

The assam fish had quite an amount of fish. The fish steak was deep fried and then served with the assam sauce. The fish was nice and crunchy but because it was not cooked together with the assam sauce it didn't get the flavor in.

The eggplant dish was good but I didn't understand where the nyonya twist to this dish. I was expecting it to be a bit more spiced up. Maybe with some sambal on it or something to make it more nyonya style. As it was it could easily be just a chinese eggplant dish.
