Cactus Club Cafe - Vancouver, BC

Last weekend we had some friends visiting from California. I had a gift card for this restaurant so I thought let's take our guests to check it out. Hubby picked out the Coal Harbor location because we wanted a nice view to the water front.

We got there around 4:30 which was earlier than dinner time. But we wanted to be able to enjoy view of the water while it still got light. Because of the odd time I thought the place won't be too busy. But surprisingly there was a line to get in. We just managed to get at the end of it. Though a bit dimmed inside I could tell it was nowhere of being slow. Lots of people ! I requested a table by the window and was told no problem as long as we could finish in 2 hours time. I was delighted. Two hours were plenty for us.

The view by the window was beautiful. Too bad with the daylight still very short we only got to enjoy it a bit and then it got dark. By then we got our drinks and food as well. We ordered the two new items on the menu - spicy ahi roll and prawn crunch roll and added an order of calamari. We just came from Granville Island Public Market so we got our shares of snacks there. This stop was more for the view and drinks. We still had dinner plans later on.

Out of the two rolls, I liked the prawn crunch roll better. The crunchiness of the prawn went well with a bit of the mayo in the roll. No brainer. The spicy ahi didn't quiet stand out. A bit bland for my taste. And the calamari was just normal. Nothing too special.

The drinks we ordered were Hey Hibiscus, Soul Revival and Signature Sangria. The Hey Hibiscus was a very pretty pink color drink made of hibiscus, rose, ginger, white peach, lemon and soda. It was more on the tangy side. The Soul Revival looked like a light orange juice color with mixture of ginger beer. turmeric, mango, lime, jalapeno and thai basil. Sounds very exotic huh ? It's gingery and refreshing. The Signature Sangria was the only drink with alcohol. This drink had a dark red color and was a combination of zinfandel, apricot brandy, fresh strawberries, raspberries, sprite and bellini. Taste like red wine with a bit frizz.
