Street Food @ Suvarnabhumi Airport

This transit at Suvarnabhumi airport was longer than usual. So it gave us plenty of time to explore the airport. After a long haul flight and a shorter one which totaled about 15 hours sitting down, I felt a relief to be walking again. So we went to each floor of the airport and did a window shopping first before deciding on what we want to eat. 😋

Suvarnabhumi airport consisted of 4 levels and a basement level. We arrived on the 2nd level. The departure hall is on the 4th level. Everything else was pretty much shops or services. Basement level will connect you to train to the city. There's also a walkway to Novotel airport hotel. I think if you take taxi to the airport you will be dropped at first level. Unless last time our taxi made a mistake. Anyhow.

There were some sit down restaurants on level 3 which offers local fares. There was also a Starbucks and McDonald and some coffee shop along with a 7 Eleven. If you have been to Thailand you know that convenient store like 7 Eleven is really convenient. It's like Japanese and their konbinis. You can find drinks, snacks, fruits, medication, etc.

We came across a small stall at the basement level which sells local fares like noodle soup etc. There was a picture menu and it was pretty busy with airport employees as well. It's usually a good sign that means the food should be decent. So we picked a corner table to accommodate our trolley.

We chose Thai boat noodle soup and Hainanese chicken rice. I know Hainanese chicken rice can be found in Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand. But other than Singapore and Indonesia I have never tried it in Thailand. So it's time to give it a try.

Thai boat noodle soup it's pretty similar to Vietnamese pho in a way. It's noodle soup served with rice noodle, meat and meat balls. The difference is Thai boat noodle broth is dark from the pig or cow blood used in the broth. The topping consisted of pork liver, pork and meat balls. The broth also tasted of some spices - perhaps star anise and maybe five spice powder ? The broth was more on the sweet side.
