Thailand Road Trip : Day 1 Chiang Rai - Uttaradit

We are on a road trip to south of Thailand. Phuket to be exact. Our friends have been planning this road trip for a while. Total distance between Chiang Rai and Phuket is about 960 miles (1545 km). But we will do it slowly and stop by a few places along the way.

The distance between Chiang Rai and Uttaradit is 315 km (195 miles). The plan was to leave around 9:30. Me and hubby were already awoke by about 6. Excited about the trip !😊 I ate my breakfast and finished packing up.

Police Check Point
Finally we left at 9:40. Still following our schedule. Traffic was not too bad. Surprisingly we came across a few police check point. According to our friend, R since we are in the north and close to Golden Triangle so police check point is pretty common. It's also not unusual for the police to request urine check at the spot ! That was shocking to me. 😒

Lunch at PTT Gas Station
We saw along the way there were a few rest area. We were told that those rest area are run by government. Simple. We didn't stop at those rest area. Most people like to stop at gas station especially PTT gas station because the restrooms are clean and big. Also PTT gas stations normally has 7Eleven and other shops. In some instances there are also food court or small restaurants. Interesting, huh ?

So our lunch that day was at a PTT gas station with a small food court. We first exchanged cash for coupons before deciding what to eat. There were noodle soup and chicken rice. In the end I ordered noodle soup with rice noodle and hubby got chicken rice.

My soup consisted of minced pork, sliced pork and some pork blood with white mugwort. The soup was on the sweet side with some fragrant fried garlic. My rice noodle was served on the side which was sort of surprising because I had a similar soup a day earlier and it was just mixed in together. R told me that this type of soup is usually served with rice.

Hubby's chicken rice was delicious. The rice was soft and fragrant of chicken flavor. The chicken was boneless with some chicken soup served on the side. The chili sauce was a bit on a darker side compared to Singaporean style chicken rice chili sauce.

Cost of food was about THB60-70 (USD 1.70 - 2.00)
