Yun Yiee Kopitiam 友谊饭店- Petaling Jaya, Malaysia

When I saw the picture of this neighborhood kopitiam on Google maps I was surprised. Because we've been there before with a relative ! 😁 Such a coincidence we actually stopped by this kopitiam on our way to Kuantan

For you guys who are not familiar with the term "kopitiam". Kopitiam term is a common term used in Malaysian and Singapore for a small neighborhood food court. So it's a "restaurant" with a few vendors offering their specialties. Usually each kopitiam will have a drink stall. As soon as you sit down, one person would approach your table and ask to take your drink order. See a wikipedia entry here for complete kopitiam drink terms.

This Yun Yiee kopitiam has a bak kut teh stall, western food stall, wonton mee, char kway teow and pork noodle. If you arrive a bit later in the morning then the mixed rice stall will be ready as well. I noticed the bak kut teh is more an afternoon seller as well. So depends on the time of the day you get there, you may see different vendors available.

We have tried the char kway teow, mee mamak, pork noodle and mee with chicken feet here. For me nothing stood out and everything was pretty standard. What I like here was the pastry shop that sells shio bao (烧包). I guess the vendor was probably just another distributor of the shio bao because we have bought similar shio bao outside Do Re Mi kopitiam in Ara Damansara before. But this vendor also sells their freshly baked bolo bun which smells wonderful.
