Foo Heng Muara Karang - Jakarta, Indonesia
In this part of town, dimsum is pretty easy to find. But a good one with decent price is a bit of a challenge to keep. We once found a good one in PIK area. But alas, after we managed to visit them twice they closed down.
This Foo Heng restaurant was opened pretty recent. At least we saw it on our last visit a few months back. So we made sure to give it a try this time before they close down for whatever reason.
So far we managed to visit twice and I think this one is a keeper. They offer quite a varieties of dimsum items, rice items and noodles. The shumai and har gow were standard and nothing to rave about. What stood out was the mala noodle and the cheong fan.
The mala noodle portion was quite big and intended for sharing of two persons or more. It's fragrant with a bit spiciness and numbness. My sis-in-law pointed out that they didn't use cilantro unlike some other restaurants that serves mala.
The cheong fan was thin unlike the Hongkong style cheong fan which tends to be thicker with shrimps or char siu wrapped inside. We like the char siu cheong fan here. It reminded us of the Chinese mainland cheong fan we had in Vancouver, BC.
Other dimsum items worth trying again were stir fry rice cake with daikon, sesame balls and lo mai gai. The crispy pork was fine but a bit smaller in portion.
Parking could be a challenge as they don't have dedicated parking area. But the parking attendants were very good at helping us finding parking spot. Weekends tend to be extra busy so come early or come after 1 pm.
