Cơm lam gà nướng tây nguyên - Dalat, Vietnam

When I was researching Dalat, I came across this video showing a visit to a restaurant that serves grilled chicken. So I was intrigued. That restaurant was quite far from town center so I gave up the idea of visiting it. Later on I found a few others that serve grilled chicken. And it supposedly was one of the cuisine of Dalat.

This restaurant we visited is in town and walkable from our hotel. When we arrived there it was quiet as it wasn't quite lunch time yet. The menu had pictures on it but I have looked at it ahead of time and already had an idea on what to order.

We ordered 1/2 chicken (gà nướng), 3 grilled rice in bamboo (cơm lam) and 2 skewers of grilled pork (thịt nướng). It took about ten minutes for them to prepare before they brought it all in a platter. Along with that was a small dish of pickle cucumber.

The chicken was crispy on the skin and minimally seasoned. There was a dipping sauce to go with it which I did not use because I found it a bit on the sweet side. It goes with the pickle cucumber though. I thought the pork skewer would be like the one used for bun thit nuong (vermicelli with grilled pork) but this skewer was only mildly seasoned. The grilled rice was interesting and I liked it. Well, I loved sticky rice. 😂

Total bill for us including 1 can of sprite was VND 221k (USD 8.63).
