Sentosa Seafood PIK 2 - Jakarta, Indonesia

We had a chance to host a birthday dinner here this year. It involved multiple families so we contacted the restaurant to inquire about private room. The reason being I have been to this restaurant and the way it's set up was way too open. It's like a cafeteria setting. No separation and no privacy.

It turned out that they do have several private rooms. The minimum order for each room was IDR 1.5 million (USD 90.27) which was not too bad considering we would order seafood. When I first tried to book the private room I was told it's too early and they could not take the booking yet. Contact us in October. 😏

A week prior to the dinner, I contacted them to plan for the meal as I tried to save time and also have the dishes ready when we all arrive. Surprisingly when I placed the order, I found out that the price for the fish was the same across the board which covered groupers and snappers. From what I know, groupers are usually more expensive.

Anyhow, on the day just a few hours before dinner, I received a phone call that they did not have the fish that I ordered. 😒Not enough fish ? I thought they are seafood restaurant ? So we cut back on one fish which turned out to be better for us since we over ordered anyway. But luckily even with the cancelation we still made the minimum bill of IDR 3 million.

Now, how's the food ? It's a hit and miss. It's my second time dining at this location. But this time since it's a big group we got to try plenty of dishes. The steam fish with nyonya style was decent but we had stronger flavor at another restaurant. Their Sentosa fried fish was a hit with our group. It's fish fillet deep fried with light batter and plated back as a whole fish. The seasoning for this fish is a mystery but perhaps taste like some potato chips ?

The worst was its crispy chicken with onion. It didn't look like chicken and it tasted weird. I double checked with the staff and was told it was indeed crispy chicken.

The spicy preserved mustard fish soup was so so. The bowl was not that big and was filled with vermicelli which soaked up the soup. It also had thinly sliced daikon that was still slightly crunchy. Not good. I would completely not recommend that.

Another dish that was a winner was deep fried prawn with salted egg. The prawns were decent size, neither too big nor too small. They turned out crispy enough that you didn't have to peel off the shell and could still enjoy the prawn.
