Dharma Kitchen - Jakarta, Indonesia

We had a few friends came to visit us from Hong Kong while we were in Jakarta. One of them is a vegan. We made plan to meet them there since a few months prior. I had been researching places to eat while they were there. I'm an omnivore so recommending a vegetarian place required a bit more time.

In the end we settled for this one for lunch. It's in our neighborhood and looked pretty convincing. When we walked in the place was pretty quiet. We were asked whether we wanted hotpot or regular menu. Hmm, that I didn't know. But we settled with regular menu. Their menu luckily had plenty of photos so I let my friend looked and helped me decide on what to order.

In the end we ordered a "satay" dish, a spicy "fish", fried tempe and tofu platter and a nasi lemak. All the dishes looked pretty convincing. But as an omnivore I could not fool my taste buds that the thing that looked like fish was not fish and the satay was actually most likely gluten shaped like satay.

The best tasting in my opinion was the fried tofu and tempeh. Then the stir fry veggie with mushroom. The nasi lemak could pass because I enjoyed the coconut rice and the fried emping chips. The satay was not bad, though I actually preferred mushroom satay from Jejamuran in Sleman, Central Java.

Total bill was IDR 638k (USD 38.07) including tax and tips.
