Thai Restaurant ร้านทาโร่ทะเลเผา - Chiang Mai, Thailand
This restaurant is near the vicinity of The One Condominium in Chiang Mai. At the time we happened to be staying in an airbnb at D Condo Ping which is relatively close to the area.
We found this restaurant when searching for lemon steam fish and this restaurant showed up on the radar. Their menu showed quite a lot of seafood items and reviews were pretty convincing so we decided to give it a try.
We went there for dinner as we were walking there we were not sure if that's the restaurant we were looking for as there was no clear sign. Then an older man came out, hubby showed him the name on Google map and he said yes and invited us in.
We ordered steam sea bass with lemon, vermicelli with prawn and grilled squid. As we waited, there was nobody at the restaurant. It was around 6 pm and we could feel mosquitoes flying around us. The area where the restaurant is located is actually quite an affluent neighborhood. Located just a stone throw away from Central Festival. That area has plenty of big houses with huge yard.
We joked that they would have to go to market to shop for a fish to cook for us. But about fifteen minutes later, our fish came out. Then the vermicelli and lastly the squid.
The fish was big. Flavourful, tangy, a bit sweet and savory. Not too spicy. We would expect it to be spicier though. The vermicelli was fragrant. Sweet and savory. It had flavor of ginger. I found pieces of ginger and garlic and also pork fat. In the past I had this dish before but was okay about it. But after that night, it became sort of a favorite dish. Later on I found out that it's pretty easy to do it at home too. 😍
The squid that came out last was a bit of a disappointment as it was smaller than expected. The taste was still fine. I was disappointed because the squid was smaller and it didn't look like the picture on the menu.
