Hang Tuah - Jakarta, Indonesia

Found this place in our neighborhood. We finally had a chance to try it this morning. We got there around 9 am and the place was pretty quiet except for two tables. The set up of the place is nice and cozy. Funny thing though the food ordering was done like fast food style. Order at the cashier and pay then bring an order number to our table and wait for our food to be delivered.

There were quite a number of selections for drinks. I guess that's their main money maker. We only ordered a hot teh tarik and hot teh o. Nothing much to say about other drinks.

For snacks we had curry puff, chicken shumai and tuna mayo toast. Then for main entrees we had laksa and seafood char kway teow. The tuna mayo toast was a bit too crispy in my opinion. I think just a slight crispiness would have been better. Also there's not much taste of tuna or mayo in the toast. The filling could be salty mashed potato ? 😒 The chicken shumai lacked texture. It's like eating salty lontong. Too soft.

The laksa broth was a bit diluted. Even with the chili paste and lime slices provided could not make the taste better. Far from katong laksa which usually has a richer coconut flavor broth. The noodle used was thinner than normal laksa noodle.

Seafood char kway teow looked promising but the taste was too sweet. Perhaps if we had ordered a spicy one maybe the spiciness could balance out the sweetness ?

Ah yes, almost forgot about the curry puffs. I think those curry puffs were the redeemer of our trip. A bit oily but still had a decent taste. The pastry portion was a bit thin and flaky but the filling was quite generous.
