Suki Chang Phuak @ Greenpark - Chiang Mai, Thailand

This restaurant is located at Greenpark Community Mall. It's a strip mall located on the other road side of Lampang Superhighway. It's very close to where we stayed at an airbnb at The One. There's also a 7-Eleven at this strip mall which is closer to The One.

One night we decided to check it out as it looked pretty busy every time we walked pass. As the name tells, this restaurant specializes in suki which is a Thai adaptation of Japanese soup.  The sweet sauce is made of fermented red bean curd. If you have tried suki you would know that it's nothing similar to its Japanese cousin sukiyaki.

Thai suki tends to be on the sweet side while Japanese sukiyaki is more savory. Suki comes in two different forms, the soupy kind (suki nam) or the stir fry style (suki haeng). The menu at this restaurant plays around the suki theme between dry (stir fry) or wet (soup). Unsure what to expect, we ordered one stir fry and one soup.

The noodle used was the wide size rice noodle (senyai ?) and then topping were slices of pork liver, white wood ear, seafood and squid. We ordered the stir fry one without squid so that's the only thing different (that I could notice). Surprisingly the stir fry one was pretty good. It had smoky flavor that hubby loves from a stir fry dish. The soup version was actually not as sweet as I remembered it to be. So the suki here is different. Definitely deserves a second chance next time we are in the area.
