Richard Rivalee - Georgetown, Malaysia

On our previous trip to Penang we visited a restaurant serving nyonya food. On this trip we had an extra person which would give us more opportunities to order extra food and trying out more varieties of nyonya food.

I was not too impressed with the nyonya restaurant we visited last even though that one was highly rated. Maybe it was just all hyped. After searching around, we found Richard Rivalee located at Lorong Macalister in Georgetown.

We made a reservation just in case it's busy. It was lunch time after all. When we got there, I was glad that we did made a reservation. The place was not very big and tend to get crowded during lunch time.

From what I understand Richard Rivalee is a designer and cooking is just a hobby. The restaurant was nicely decorated even though it's sort of narrow like typical building in the old town of Georgetown. There's an open area with a tiny pond and greenery with natural sunlight coming through.

We ordered four color rice, nyonya curry chicken, jicama fried with cuttle fish, sambal petai and chinese wine chicken. Out of all those dishes, the one that stood out was the sambal petai. It was fragrant and not too spicy. The belachan was distinct but not overpowering.

Total bill RM 212.80 (USD 54.20) including tips. That bill also included drinks.
