Kitchenette @ Senayan City - Jakarta, Indonesia
Meeting up some friends here for lunch. I have never been to this mall before as it's located more center of Jakarta. I hardly go to that part of town. I just don't see a point of going to a mall out of the way unless there's a particular thing I'm looking for.
My friend brought me straight to the basement where there were plenty of choices of restaurants. I was impressed and everything looked like a good potential for lunch. Ha ! I must be hungry. But I just let my friends decide since I was not very familiar with some of the brands.
In the end we decided on Kitchenette. I had no idea what cuisine they offer but I think it's worth a try. When I looked at the menu it seemed to me that their style was more fusion. Some Indonesian fare with a twist. I chose grilled ribs with sambal korek. I just looked it up today what sambal korek is which is a raw chili mix originated from Central Java. This type of sambal is made with roughly ground chili along with garlic and shallot then had hot oil from leftover frying items poured all over.
Another friend ordered pasta. Kitchenette did have quite a selection of pasta. Unfortunately my high carb diet is all in the past now. My other friend agreed to share her order with me and she ordered farm house grilled chicken.
My platter of grilled ribs came with a bowl of steamed white rice, some crispy candied potatoes, half hard boiled egg and urap. Urap is a type of raw salad made of cut up snake bean, shredded cabbage seasoned with spiced grated coconut. The ribs was tender fell of the bone easily. The candied potatoes were crispy and slightly sweet.
The platter I got to try looked very green in a glimpse. It had scattered deep fried kale on it. Or was it cassava leaves ? In the west I usually use kale in place of cassava leaves. So perhaps ? This chicken platter had mashed potatoes on it which came out nice and creamy.
