Indian Oven - Vancouver, Canada

Me and hubby usually avoided going ala carte at Indian restaurants. We don't know what to order. We don't mind visiting Indian buffet though, in fact we enjoyed it. We have even found out one in downtown area of Vancouver.

We recently had a big group of family visiting from Malaysia. Jokingly hubby mentioned Indian food and surprisingly the response was warm. Considering that not everyone would want to stuff themselves up, we decided to go ala carte at a neighborhood Indian restaurant.

It was a rainy gloomy day, so we were not very surprise that the restaurant was empty when we walked in. A table was prepared for us by the patio door since we called ahead to reserve it. The menu was pretty extensive and seemed to me to have something for everyone. Each one of us picked something out to share and in the end we had about five different items on the table.

I picked Goa curry fish, then we had prawn masala, beef vindaloo, butter chicken from the lunch special menu. The lunch special menu was actually pretty handy if you visit the restaurant by yourself as it comes with rice, naan and two other sides.

The food came out pretty fast. The Goa curry fish was pretty mild and not spicy at all. Butter chicken was creamy and rich. Our favorite was the prawn masala and it sort of reminded us of the South East Asian prawn sambal dish. Beef vindaloo was great. The beef was well cooked and not too tough.

As we still had room, we added another chicken tandoori. The chicken was so tender and practically fell off the bones. A bit smoky from the tandoori. I think it may have been precooked before finished off in the tandoori.
