Jang Su Jang - Milpitas

side dishes selection
Prior to this visit to Jang Su Jang I have been to the one on El Camino in Santa Clara. It's always good to visit a restaurant especially the family style with a group of people so we can order and try different types of food.

This time our group visited the restaurant on Friday night. The location on Milpitas took over the spot of a Chinese restaurant. Surprisingly it's pretty spacious inside. The restaurant was only half empty when we walked in around 7 pm. We were seated at a table on the left wing of the restaurant. There were a few other tables occupied there.

We ordered a pan fried dumpling, acorn noodle salad with spicy sauce, bossam (boiled pork wrap) and some items for bbq.

The side dishes (ban chan) consisted of cabbage kimchee, daikon kimchee, broccoli, seaweed, bean sprout, fish cake and jap chae (glass noodle). Quite a varieties of banchan but nothing really stood out. The napa cabbage kimchee in my opinion was pretty bland.

Most of the dishes were quite a repeat from trips to various Korean restaurants in the past. One thing that was new to me was the acorn noodle salad (dotolee bibimguksoo). It had a sweet, tangy taste with a hint of spice and a bit chewiness of the noodle. The dish was very refreshing and it felt healthy because of the vegetable used. I think it's a good compliment to the bbq items we ordered.

We don't normally order bbq items at Korean restaurant because they can get pretty pricey. I felt the same here too. But our friend insisted that we ordered so we picked a few items from their bbq menu.

The waitress helped us with the bbq items but they didn't come back in time to check on it so we decided to take care of it ourselves. My experience with the other Jang Su Jang was better and more attentive. Maybe because the restaurant was smaller and not as spread out.
