Khao Soi Maesai

Last year when we visited Chiang Mai, we actually stayed pretty close to this khao soi place. So we were aware that this place seemed to be popular as it was crowded when we passed by. By the time we decided to give it a try, they were not opened. Keep in mind, they are close on Sundays.

So this time we went during lunch time. We arrived early to avoid it to be too busy. The place is not that big so it's easily crowded. This time we actually shared a table with a stranger. But he was finishing up his lunch anyway so it wasn't too bad. I guess I'm still not used to sharing table with strangers though this kind of practice is pretty common in Hong Kong.

Anyway, their menu is pretty simple and we could just check off what we wanted from the list provided on the table. I think there was picture menu posted on the wall. They offered khao soi with chicken (classic), khao soi with beef, pork and meat balls. Also khanom jeen nam ngiao which is another northern style noodle soup with pork blood and regular noodle soup. Since we went there for khao soi so we went ahead and ordered khao soi beef and khao soi chicken.

In my opinion the khao soi here is ordinary. I don't think it's any special. The broth was normal and not very rich. The condiments like pickle mustard, sliced shallot and lime slices came on a separate plate. I think so far my top khao soi place is still khao so-i. The size was sort of small too. Definitely not going to hold my tummy for a long time 😅 and they also did not have any side dish for extra protein or appetizer.

In term of pricing, it's pretty standard. I think it was like THB60 (USD 1.78) for the chicken and maybe THB80 (USD 2.37) for beef.
