Restoran Hock Seng Kopitiam Part 2 - Petaling Jaya,

This is an additional notes to our first visit to Hock Seng Kopitiam a few months prior. See the first post here.

As we walked passed the first time even though it's already closed for the day, we noticed one new vendor which is a Vietnamese noodle. We were excited as we did not know a vietnamese noodle shop close by other than a Vietnamese restaurant.

Vietnamese noodle
The only thing I'm interested in at this vendor was beef noodle soup. Their version was called supreme beef. It came with thinly sliced tender beef, a few beef tendon, a few beef meatballs. The bean sprout, onion and basil with a slice of lime was served on the side.

The broth was simple and clear with not much taste or perhaps mild taste of onion. I didn't taste any star anise or cinnamon. Season to your liking. In my case, I was happy with as it is. Yum. 😋

A bowl cost RM15 (USD 3.30) which is not cheap compare to the average meal at kopitiams at around RM 11 (USD 2.44). But I think it's worth the amount of beef and the taste. It's still slightly cheaper compared to other Vietnamese pho we had at around RM 17 (USD 3.78).

Nasi Lemak
This nasi lemak stall has changed ownership. We believe it was run by a different lady before and hubby loved the taste. This visit I thought I gave it a try and it's different.

I tried their nasi lemak with ayam rendang and egg and vegetables. It was RM12 (USD 2.67). The rice was yellowish but I did not taste a strong coconut flavor of the rice. So I wasn't sure whether it used coconut milk at all.

Hainan Chicken Rice
In the past I never quite enjoy having chicken rice. While spending more time in Thailand I started trying chicken rice and I actually enjoy it. In my opinion, it's simple and safe for people with allergy issue. That's why I started trying it. Because of me being reactive to food, it was not easy for me to look for safe food while travelling. For me, chicken rice was simple and safe as long as you could avoid using their chili sauce.

This vendor has option for kampung chicken, literally means village chicken. Kampung chicken has a more chewy texture and usually not as meaty. If that doesn't sound like something you would enjoy, then opt for Bukit Mertajam chicken which is more tender but still firm meat texture. I feel that Bukit Mertajam chicken is a combination of village chicken and broiler chicken. It's almost combining best of those two varieties. Are they GMO ? I don't know the answer to that.

Curry Mee
We tried curry mee on our last visit. I liked the taste even though it wasn't like the other curry mee we had. This time it seemed that the presentation changed a bit ? Or maybe I ordered a different version ?

I was just comparing the photo of my recent order to the curry mee order I had a few months ago. On this visit, my curry mee had eggplant and other veggies in it. And the fried wonton were served on a separate dish.

I still like this curry mee version though I was hoping the wonton were not as salty. 😒
