Nhà Hàng Bảo Phương - Hoi An, Vietnam

This restaurant is located on the same street as our hotel Chillax Old Town Villa. The day we went there was pretty over casted. By evening, the wind picked up and it became windy and cold. It was actually pretty nice without the wind but with the wind it became chilly. So we thought it's time to give this restaurant a try.

We passed by this restaurant a few times. And there were a few more in that area which provide cooking classes as well as serving food. We passed by the previous night as we did our stroll and noticed that it was actually pretty busy.

We got there pretty early so we were the only table there. I have actually checked out their menu so I had an idea what I wanted. We made a few changes as we looked at the menu there and in the end we ordered a banana leaf grilled fish, a tofu dish and yang chow fried rice. Last but not least a cao lau. I was still curious with this cao lau dish.

The cao lau came out first. At a glance, it looked like the other cao lau we had. I used my chopstick to mix it after I squeezed the slice of lime provided. The noodle wasn't as thick as the other restaurant. I gave it a try. It's delicious. More delish than the first cao lau we had. The noodle here didn't have that weird taste. One of the reviews said it's the taste of alkaline water ? There's a future for cao lau after all. At least at this restaurant. 😌

Then the fried rice and the tofu dish arrived. I looked skeptically at the fried rice. It didn't quite look like what I expected of yang chow fried rice. I gave it a taste. hmm.. Not much of a taste. It's a bit on the sweeter side. No wok hei. Quite a disappointment.

Next the tofu dish. It looked a bit reddish. When I tasted it, it tasted a bit sweet. I think they used ketchup for the sauce. I guess this is Vietnamese style braised tofu. I was expecting more of s sweet savory braised tofu with soy sauce based.

The last one to arrive was the banana leave grilled fish. It came in a banana leave packet. I was a bit worry whether the fish was cooked thoroughly being in the leaf. But when I tasted the fish my worry was baseless. The fish was fried prior to being put in the banana leaf packet along with the other veggies and gravy.

Total spent for four dishes VND 370k (USD 14.36). It's a very good deal considering we ordered a whole fish.
