Kao Soy Nimman - Chiang Mai, Thailand
Trip to Chiang Mai is not complete without trying at least one khao soi. Khao soi is a northern style noodle soup served with curry base broth. Similar idea to laksa to Malaysians.
Our stay on the first week of Chiang Mai trip this time happened to be in Nimman area. We decided to stop by one evening for a dinner at Kao Soy Nimman. The place looked busy when we got there. All the outdoor seats were taken. It wasn't a particularly cool night, we decided to take a table inside which was available right away.
We ordered a beef khao soi, chicken khao soi and egg roll. The inside portion of the restaurant wasn't that big, probably just about six tables for about twenty people. But our table was pretty unique, the bottom portion was an old style sewing machine with the step, wheel, etc.
When the food arrived, we noticed the presentation was ordinary. In my mind I was comparing the time we had khao soi at khao so-i. In my opinion, those two were not quite comparable. Kao soy Nimman has more varieties on its menu, while khao so-i mainly has variety toppings for khao soi. In short, if you have a group of people new to khao soi, it's best to visit Kao soy Nimman. Khao so-i is more for intermediate khao soi lovers.
